Types of Projects: Conducting research on education and workforce preparation issues; Identifying and promoting effective strategies for preparing young people for work; Building the capacity of communities, schools and families to implement these strategies. Example of Projects Survey of Emerging Workers: In partnership with the Louisville Education and Employment Partnership, the Initiative surveyed approximately 800 youth and young adults about their career goals and what they are doing to prepare for college and work. Results, available at 2008 Emerging Workers Survey, shed a light on what young people want from schools and families. Youth Voice Report: The insights of young people are often overlooked with searching for ways to address the dropout crisis. The Youth Voice Report, prepared by the Initiative for the America's Promise Dropout Summit in Louisville, KY, addresses the need to fully engage young people in finding real solutions. Career and Community Planning Program:The Initiative worked with the Center for Neighborhoods and the University of Louisville Planning Student Organization to develop a program introducing students to the processes of community and career planning. |
