The Initiative is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, nonpartisan organization.

The Emerging Workforce Initiative works with a variety of partners to improve the systems and services that prepare young people for success in postsecondary education and the workplace. Our approach blends objective analysis with practical tools Specifically, the Initiative:

1. Conducts research on education and workforce issues;
2. Identifies and promotes effective strategies for preparing young people for work;
3. Builds the capacity of communities, schools and families to implement these strategies.

Examples of past projects...

- Created the Youth READY Work Sim, an interactive tool for teaching young people workplace skills

- Conducted systematic evaluation and strategic improvement plan for public employment and training program

- Conducted focus groups and surveys with young people on issues impacting high school dropouts. Completed a "Youth Voice" report and materials for community-wide summit

- Conducted a comprehensive survey of approximately 1,000 youth and young adults to determine how they are preparing for work and life.

- Completed a comprehensive research project on the workforce preparation efforts and challenges in Louisville, KY.

- Developed a framework for preparing young people with 21st century work skills.

- Served on development committee for statewide institute promoting STEM career training in high schools.

- Created career development curriculum and activities for a local employment and training program serving out of school youth and young adults.

- Worked with teams developing youth volunteer and leadership training curricula.

- Assisted local organizations to secure federal funding for employment and training program serving severely disadvantaged young adults.

- Partnered with local organization and university student organization to develop program introducing high school students to community and career planning.
